OUR STORY

The Goodness Garden is a small business born out of Covid. Looking for a change of lifestyle following New Zealand’s initial Covid Level 4 lock down and seeking a way to make good use of the fruit and vegetables produced on their 5 acre lifestyle block in the hills behind Napier, founder Nikki set out to create The Goodness Garden.

Nikki uses her lifelong experience of preserving applying classic techniques to batch make authentic preserves just as granny would have. With NO artificial colours or preservatives you won’t find any hidden nasties in The Goodness Garden preserves - just the good stuff!

Aside from using home grown produce Nikki sources fruit from their neighbourhood where everyone has fruit trees of some sort, much of which just rots on the ground going to waste. By collecting donated fruit she is able to extend the range of jams and jellies, pastes, chutneys, relishes and sauces AND reduce food waste. Nikki also forages for fruit where possible - roadside blackberries, hidden quince trees, plums on the local walking tracks… She will even door knock suburban homes where there is a pear or apple tree dropping fruit on the footpath!

Where possible by-products of the cooking process (i.e. peelings, pulps etc.) are composted to create fertiliser for Nikki’s vegetable gardens or fed to her small flock of happy free range hens and rare breed Damara sheep.

We’re all about sustainability too - packaging is in glass or paper and local market customers are encouraged to return empty jars and bottles for re-use. The Goodness Garden is not only about reducing food waste but recycling and re-using where possible.

With the goodwill and generosity of the community enabling The Goodness Garden to keep production costs to a minimum and by you purchasing their preserves The Goodness Garden is able to support local food charities paying it forward and donating product, produce and a percentage of their profits each year.

THANK YOU & ENJOY!
